Biography of Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba

Jack Ma is actually Ma Yun's real name. He was born on October 15, 1964 in Hangzhou, located in the southeastern region of China. Ma has younger brothers and sisters. He and his brothers grew up when communists in China were very isolated from the western world and at that time his family did not have much money.

In 1972, President Nixon visited Hangzhou. After that, Ma's hometown became a tourist mecca. As a creative teenager with a business spirit, Ma runs her day by getting up early to visit the main hotel in the city. Then he offers tour guides for tourists with English lessons. The nickname "Jack" was finally attached to him, a gift of a tourist who eventually became a close friend with him.

Unlike rich children, without money or connections, the only way Ma can progress is through education. After high school, he applied to college but he failed the entrance examination twice. After much study, he finally passed the third experiment, then continued his studies at the Hangzhou Teacher's Institute. He graduated in 1988 and began trying to apply for as many jobs as possible.

He seems to have received more than a dozen rejections, including from the local KFC restaurant. Finally Ma was hired as an English teacher. Ma is indeed a natural teacher, she is liked by her students and she really loves her work even though her salary is relatively small. Ma only made $ 12 a month at the local university, where she taught.

Ma actually had no experience with computers or even coding, but he was very interested in the internet when he was able to use it for the first time during a trip to America in 1995. He had just started a translation business and traveled to help a Chinese company at that time. restore. Ma's first online search was "beer," but he was very surprised to find that no Chinese beer appeared in the internet search results. That's when he decided to set up an internet company for his country, China.

Shortly thereafter, this internet service began to attract the attention of many users from all over the world. In October 1999, the Ma company raised $ 5 million from Goldman Sachs and also $ 20 million from SoftBank. SoftBank is a Japanese telecommunications company that likes to invest in technology companies.

In 2005, Yahoo also invested 1 billion dollars for Alibaba to exchange with about 40% of the company's shares. This amount is very large for Alibaba, which at that time was again trying to beat the eBay business in China. Finally, Yahoo's decision was a big win for Yahoo too because it managed to generate $ 10 billion for Alibaba's IPO.

Alibaba finally went public on September 19, 2014. "Today we don't get money. What we get is people's trust," Ma told CNBC reporters at the time.

This $ 150 billion IPO is the largest bid for companies listed on the US in the history of the New York Stock Exchange. It also makes Ma the richest person in his native country, China, with an estimated value of $ 25 billion.
